Sunday Lime event flyer
The project
Sunday Lime was a weekly music based event held by the Toronto drumming and DJ collective: iDrum. They needed a print flyer to advertise their afternoon event that paired local house music DJs with live percussionists and musicians.
The solution
The flyer was designed to represent summer and the Caribbean custom of liming (a colloquialism for hanging out and being social). This piece was meant to appeal to a cosmopolitan crowd in their 20s and 30s who is looking for a lively yet low-key event. The combination of bright yellows and greens were mean to evoke the energy brought upon by hot summer days while playing on the word lime through the use of colours that represent citrus fruits.
For the typography a funky, chunky, soulful font was used as the display typeface. This was then paired with a condensed retro-futuristic san-serif font for the secondary typeface. The display type was chosen as it was a superb representation for the musical influences behind house music which were: disco, funk, and early electronic music of the 70s and 80s. While the secondary type was chosen to contrast against the display type with its structured yet unique retro-futuristic look. The condensed type also allowed for more copy to be placed within the tight confines of this 3.5 × 2 inch card.
Finally, photos taken from previous events featuring a multicultural crowd letting loose and soaking in the energy from the musicians and DJs were sprinkled throughout the flyer. The photo selection further reinforced the lively and vibrant vibes of the event while the diverse crowd made it feel welcoming and authentic.
